Surveillance Cameras - More Protection or Less Privacy

Surveillance cameras are everywhere. They are the "eye in the sky". According to a report on the Early Show, whether you are in malls, hotels, parks, or on the streets, there is a good chance that a surveillance camera is close by. The Department of Homeland Security has provided one million dollars ($1,000,000) to cities and towns to install cameras in public places. In New York City, more than five thousand (5,000) camera are monitored by the New York Police Department (NYPD) - there could be many more. Cameras are unregulated. It was reported that a couple on a private balcony during a romantic moment was filmed by a police helicopter.

According to the report, there is a camera set up outside in Rigley Field in Chicago that can be watched from anywhere by anyone (earthcam.com).

Surveillance cameras are not going anywhere any time soon. The majority of people that were interview said they don't mind the surveillance cameras. How do you feel about this? Please comment.

Become Accountable

A lot is going on in the world today, including bullying and Identity Theft. With the House of Representatives changing hands, we can expect a lot of changes to be made. We have to be prepared for whatever comes our way.
I wrote two books in 2008 about critical situations that are occurring in the world today:

“Formula For Success - Success Can Be Yours Too”, and “Are You ‘YOU’ or Is Someone Else ‘YOU’ - Protect Yourself From Identity Theft”, are books that will benefit anyone and everyone. They both give timely information.

“Formula For Success” addresses such topics as self-improvement, self motivation, resume writing, the interviewing process, going into the job market, entrepreneurship, and much more. It can be used as a career counseling tool, and a motivating tool.

Identity Theft is the number one white collar crime in the world. “Are ‘YOU’ You” addresses the seriousness and the magnitude of the problem. It addresses the types of Identity Theft, how to recognize scams, the safety and security of your computer and your mail, and much more. It will make you aware of Identity Theft, and show you how to minimize your risk of becoming an Identity Theft victim.

Both books can be used as an employee training tool, or as gifts. They can be found at margiewrobinson.com or amazon.com. The ISBN numbers are:
“Formula For Success” - 0-7414-5018-6
“Are You ‘YOU’ - 0-7414-5218-9

Hot Spot For Identity Theft Hackers

According to Early Show Consumer Correspondent, Susan Koeppen, Nine thousand (9,000) have fell victim to Identity Theft hackers. This is an easy way for identity thieves everywhere to get information. With free wi-fi at coffee shops, airports, hotels, and everywhere that computers are set up, security experts say that one thousand ($1,000) worth of data can be taken from bank accounts, credit cards, etc., by computer hackers.

Hackers can do anything that you can do on your computer, and you will never know. Your every move can be followed on-line by hackers. They set up bogus wi-fi access points and wait for unsuspecting wi-fi users. Values in bank accounts can be changed. With more than two hundred and twenty thousand (220,000) public wi-fi spots in the United States, you can not always trust security measures to keep your information safe.

Even I-phones can be attacked from a computer. Do not use wi-fi for confidential information. You can get a pass code or code from the coffee shop or hotel clerk. Use a Virtual Private Network(VPN) to protect your personal information. You can also set up your VPN. Find software that you can download for free. Be safe when using wi-fi with your computer. Medical Identity Theft - Taken To a New Level

Medical identity theft affected more than 300,000 people in the last year. It accounts for 3 percent of identity theft crimes of the estimated 8.3 million people who had their identities stolen in the last year. Government and private health care organizations say that Medical Identity Theft is on the rise, costing victims their credit and their medical benefits.

Identity thieves are not only interested in tapping into your financial resources, but also after your medical identification data and services. Medical ID thieves often get your personal information, such as your health-insurance number and Social Security number, and use it to commit medical Identity Theft.

Medical identity thieves are taking Medical Identity Theft to a dangerous new level. They may change your medical and health insurance records. Every time a thief uses your identity to get medical care, your medical information is changed, and more of your benefits are used.

Seniors are being targeted by identity thieves because they have more medical problems. Their information is being used to get prescription drugs. Prescriptions are being stolen and used to abuse drugs. Oxicontin is one of the drugs that is being abused. Pharmacies are not requiring identification when prescriptions are being picked up, so anyone can pick up YOUR medicine. This includes drug abusers and addicts.

One thing that you as a pharmacy customer can do to protect your account is to have your account flagged so that identification is required when a prescription is picked up in your name.

IDENTITY THEFT - NO GUN NECESSARY

Identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in America. It has become a very serious problem. Identity thieves no longer need sawed-of shotguns and ski masks to make a big haul. Nowadays , all they need is a Social Security Number, or a pre-approved application from your trash to perform a robbery.

There are data brokers that have collected information about individuals for decades. They use public records as a source of information, and are willing to sell your most sensitive information to paying customers. This is big business!!

Every three to four seconds, someone becomes a victim of Identity Theft. Thieves will steal your money, they will steal your credit, and they will steal your name, and more. When this happens to a person, their entire life is devastated. You need to do what you can to protect yourself from Identity Theft. Your identity is your most valuable asset.

For more information on how to protect yourself from Identity Theft, and how to restore your identity once you have been victimized, go to http://www.margiewrobinson.com.
